Commercial Scaffold Erection Southampton – Brunswick Gate

Main Building Perimeter, including rear West Elevation. (Review 1, Phase 2).

For this Commercial Scaffolding project, We erected an independent scaffold to the South, West & East elevations of the building to give access for major refurbishment works and extension of the existing building up another floor.

In total, the scaffold was approximately 125 metres lineal x 15 metres high to roof level, which extended to 17 metres high when the additional floor was installed.

At a high level, we needed to bridge over 2 no. adjacent properties to achieve full access.

We also bridged over the rear elevation site entrance. The Independent scaffold was erected in 2 metres fully boarded platforms with double handrail & ladder access to every elevation. The structure was tied to the existing building using Hilti ties fixed to the wall at a ratio of every 16 square metres. The scaffold was also encapsulated with Monarflex sheeting from the 1st / 2nd level up.

This project was erected in compliance with TG20.13.

On the East elevation Street elevation, we installed a 500 kg Platform Hoist for accessing steel and plant onto the roof, plus incorporated a System type Staircase for pedestrian access to the roof without using the scaffold.

Whilst on-site, other works were in operation, so we also installed double handrail edge protection on-site wherever and whenever instructed.

DUTIES OF ERECTOR.

All operatives were deemed competent as defined by C.I.S.R.S / NVQ Qualification.

INSPECTION OF SCAFFOLD.

When completed, scaffolds were left in a condition suitable to perform the duty for which they are intended. The scaffold was then inspected by a competent person representing SAS Ltd. When found suitable, a Hand Over Certificate was issued.

Personal Protective Equipment.

Wearing gloves was considered an absolute minimum.
Where RPE is prescribed, the user was face fit tested.
Re-useable PPE was thoroughly cleaned after use and not shared with other operatives.
Single-use PPE was disposed of at the end of each shift.
